V-Quiz

App development for the insurance industry: Collecting training points with gamification

Some mobile screens showing how the app looks like.

V-Quiz is a learning app in quiz format that helps insurance consultants to meet their legal training obligations. Until now, further training was only possible in the form of face-to-face seminars or web-based training. V-Quiz is the first alternative learning offer accredited by insurance associations, which allows insurance consultants to continue their training easily and conveniently.

Challenge

The Greenliff developer team, based in Switzerland, took over the further mobile app development and maintenance of V-Quiz. Although it was ready for roll-out, we thoroughly tested the app again at various levels. Among other things, the performance was very poor and we optimised the app before the release.

How we got there

Speed up!

It turned out that the performance problems were caused by so-called "marshalling"*: When opening the app, the data first had to be synchronised from the "managed" to the "native" world. The query of individual data usually only takes a few microseconds, but with a question catalogue of over 7000 questions with four answers each, it quickly takes several seconds. That's why we transferred the entire question catalogue once into the "managed" world, where the processing of the data now also takes place.

Full cost transparency

The budget was an important issue in the project. That's why we developed a clearance workflow so that the customer had a full overview of the project costs at all times. We estimated the outlay for each development item. The customer then prioritised the items according to his budget. We combined the confirmed items into milestones and implemented them.

"Greenliff was the right choice at all levels. The experts were there to help me both technically and in the fields of design and marketing. I really appreciated the physical proximity in Switzerland and the direct exchange with the team during the app development." Thomas Köhler, Founder and CEO of V-Quiz

*Marshalling: In computer science, marshalling describes the process of transforming the memory representation of an object into a data format suitable for storage or transmission. It is typically used when data has to be moved between different parts of a computer program or from one program to another.

What made our client happy?

From the idea to the App Store

With our help, the client was able to realise the final steps of his innovative idea for the insurance industry. V-Quiz is officially approved as a learning app for further education in the insurance industry and is unique in this market.

Top rating of the users

V-Quiz achieves enormously good ratings in the App Store for both Android (4.9) and iOS (4.3). There is no better indicator for the outstanding quality of an app!

Experts for Xamarin

The app was originally developed in Xamarin, a cross-platform framework for release in both Android and iOS. Since Greenliff as one of the first Xamarin partners in Switzerland was very familiar with this technology, the team was able to efficiently adopt and further develop the app.

Go big or go home!

Greenliff is now preparing V-Quiz for roll-out in Germany and Austria. Since the further training obligation according to the Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) is a European directive, it would even be possible to extend the app to the whole of Europe!
